I've always been uncomfortable laughing. I'd force a small smile for photos; a big, open laugh was a nightmare. I hated how I looked laughing, so I covered my mouth, hiding what I considered a flaw.

One day, I randomly joined an online international Laughter Yoga session. Initially curious, I watched others laugh freely. My shoulders were tense, my throat tight. I thought, "This is awkward and forced." But the instructor (later I learned it was Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder!) said, "It doesn't matter if it's real or fake; laughter benefits your body." This relaxed me.

As the session progressed, I tried the strange exercises and sounds. It felt unnatural at first; my stomach muscles tightened, my breathing quickened. But something changed. Each "hahaha" after a deep breath felt warm, spreading through me. My cheeks flushed, my stiff smile softened. Amazingly, I found myself laughing genuinely, not a controlled smile, but something from within, joining the others' laughter.

Afterwards, I felt lighter, my shoulders relaxed, my breathing deeper. I impulsively sent a screenshot to my husband.

He replied, "I rarely see you laugh like that. You always cover your mouth or smile subtly. very happy!" I looked at the picture – it was me, laughing wildly, mouth open, eyes crinkled, showing teeth I usually hid. I practiced that smile in the mirror.

Laughter activates the parasympathetic nervous system, shifting the body from tension to relaxation. It's more than an expression; it's energy release.

我一直不太習慣大笑。拍照時,我頂多勉強擠出一個小笑容;放聲大笑簡直就是我的惡夢。我不喜歡自己大笑的樣子,總是用手遮住嘴巴,把這當成一種缺陷來掩飾。

某天,我偶然參加了一個國際線上大笑瑜珈課程。起初只是好奇,看著其他人放聲大笑。我的肩膀緊繃,喉嚨發緊,心想:「這也太尷尬、太做作了吧!」但導師(後來才知道是創辦人馬丹·卡塔利亞醫生!)說:「真笑假笑都沒關係,笑對身體有益。」這句話讓我放鬆了下來。

隨著課程進行,我嘗試那些奇奇怪怪的動作和聲音。一開始感覺很不自然,肚子肌肉緊繃,呼吸急促。但不知不覺間,有什麼東西改變了。每一次深呼吸後發出的「哈哈哈」都感覺暖暖的,傳遍全身。我的臉頰泛紅,僵硬的笑容也柔和了下來。神奇的是,我發現自己是真的笑了,不是刻意控制的笑容,而是發自內心的笑,融入其他人的笑聲中。

課後,我覺得輕鬆多了,肩膀放鬆了,呼吸也深沉了。我一時興起,把截圖發給老公。

他回覆:「我很少看你這樣笑。你總是遮住嘴巴,或者微微一笑。好開心!」我看著照片——那是狂笑的我,嘴巴張開,眼睛眯成一條線,露出我平常藏起來的牙齒。我在鏡子前練習那個笑容。

大笑能啟動副交感神經系統,讓身體從緊張轉為放鬆。它不只是一種表情,更是一種能量釋放。
