Coincidence or Destiny?

I always carry a small bag with me – it holds keys, a phone, a wallet, and various documents. That day, my wife and I visited a café in a shopping mall. It was the weekend, there were a lot of people, and after lunch, we decided to walk around the stores.

At least 30 minutes passed when I suddenly realized that my bag was missing. The feeling was as if the ground had disappeared beneath my feet. I immediately remembered that I had last left it in the restroom. Without hesitation, I rushed back, though it wasn’t close.

While running, I started preparing myself for the worst: the money – not a big deal, not much of it, but the documents would take a long time to replace. In my mind, I was already planning to contact security, file a police report, and get a certificate of the lost passport. I had almost no hope of finding it in its place. Too many people could have been in the restroom by that time, and relying on someone’s honesty in such a crowded place seemed naive.

I ran inside – the men looked at me, probably thinking I really needed to go. I opened the door to the stall where I had left my bag, and… it wasn’t there. A cold shiver ran down my spine. “That’s it,” I thought. But I decided to check a few more stalls, and in the next one – there it was, just as if nothing had happened. Everything was in place. No one had touched it.

At that moment, it seemed like a real miracle to me. Who or what had made sure the bag stayed intact? Was it the intervention of some higher power?

But if you think about it, there are completely logical explanations. The stall where I left the bag wasn’t the first one; it was a bit further, and most men choose the nearest stalls. Also, nowadays, many people are afraid to take someone else’s things – what if it’s a scam? Some people simply have moral principles and don’t touch other people’s belongings. And, of course, a small bit of luck played a role too.

So, everything can be explained without mysticism. We tend to look for a deeper meaning in events because it helps us feel calmer. Belief in destiny or a higher order of events gives us confidence that we’re not just floating in a sea of random occurrences. But maybe the world works more simply – things happen just because they happen.

Sometimes, coincidence is just coincidence.
