The event aimed to raise awareness about coastal pollution and marine ecosystem protection, aligning with TMP’s environmental goals and Gawilan’s advocacy for cleaner waters.

Toyota’s Environmental Advocacy

1,302 volunteers from TMP, Toyota dealerships, and local government units gathered to collect 789 bags of plastic waste and plant 10,354 mangrove seedlings. These efforts are part of a larger initiative to preserve vital ecosystems and address coastal pollution in the Philippines.

Community Participation

Ernie Gawilan, a gold medalist in the Asian Para Games, played a key role in the event. Samal Island, where Gawilan grew up, was a special location for him as he sought to give back to the community that shaped his athletic career.

Ernie Gawilan’s Impact

“I am thankful to the Toyota family for their support today,” Gawilan said at the Samal Island site. “Let’s work together to preserve our nature, especially the ocean, where I started my journey.” Through Toyota’s “Start Your Impossible” program, Gawilan continues to champion environmental causes beyond his athletic career.

Toyota’s Corporate Social Responsibility

Elijah Sue Marcial, TMP Vice President for Network Sales & Systems Cluster, highlighted Gawilan’s advocacy: “Ernie’s commitment to cleaner waters is inspiring, and this project was his way of giving back to the communities that supported him.”

Denise Lim, President of Toyota Davao Inc., added, “We are proud to continue Toyota’s environmental efforts alongside such an inspiring figure.”

A Strong Community Effort for a Greener Future

A volunteer from Toyota Davao City Inc. shared: “Thanks to Ernie’s dedication, we all worked together for a cleaner and greener future.”
